Intro

So how much impact does a power cable (power cord/mains cable) have in a hi-fi system? Many skeptics will say: nothing at all! At Alpha Audio, we’ve often said that power is everything…. and that includes decent mains cables. We are now testing a rather extreme cable: the two-meter QSA Lanedri Ultimatum Infinity. Price? Are you sitting down? 18,000 Euros. Yep…

Not everyone will agree, but we think the impact of a mains cable is as great or perhaps even greater than that of an interlink or speaker cable. We usually recommend starting with mains cabling first, then interlinks and lastly speaker cables. Try it yourself at home…. you will hear immediately the impact of a decent mains cable.

Quantum…?

We asked again what exactly the “QSA treatment” means. Unfortunately, the developer can’t say anything about it. Except that it is not a special material, but a treatment of the cable. The treatment of the cable ensures higher / better conductivity and better coherence of the reproduction.

We have also heard some versions of the same cable that have been burned in a different way. (What exactly has been done, we can / may and will not say in connection with protection of the manufacturer). It is really quite fascinating what the burn-in procedure does. Without exaggerating it is a difference of a rather cold and hard sounding system and wonderfully round, generous and smooth sounding one. Just bizarre.

The inside

Internally there are – per pole – about 3600 strands of tinned copper. Basically a kind of high voltage / high current cable. The cable is not shielded, but is “twisted” in a certain way. Then the three cables are braided again, as we often see with mains cables.

The plugs are completely custom made. They have to be, because a standard plug will not fit the thick cables. Of course, QSA Lanedri has plugs for Europe as well as Asia, UK and America. In short: no worries about compatibility.

Still flexible

It is impressive that QSA still managed to keep the cable flexible. Now the QSA Lanedri Ultimatum Infinity remains a heavy, large cable, but it is perfectly possible to position the cable in a decent way. You cannot bend too tight, of course, but we get this thick cable just fine behind our hi-fi system.

  1. Hello everyone
I’m not surprised that the braided cable sounds so good, I use braided power cables from Aliexpress myself and I’m very happy with them.
There are even braided speaker cables from MazeAudio.
Many thanks for the test, as always a pleasure. Your listening tests and lab tests are always a highlight, keep up the good work.
    Many greetings from France
    Frank
