The new Rotel DX-3 is not just a headphone amplifier but also a DAC—a combination commonly seen in this category.

The Rotel DX-3 is the brand’s first stand-alone headphone amplifier. As an added bonus it features a DAC and Bluetooth functionality, along with both digital and analog inputs. No wonder Rotel markets it as the “ultimate desktop audio companion.” With compact dimensions of just 7.6 cm x 21.5 cm x 24.5 cm, it takes up minimal space and fits perfectly on a desk. According to the manufacturer, the DX-3 is compatible with a wide range of headphones, covering low, mid, and high impedance models. A gain control allows users to adjust the output to best match their headphones. For connectivity, the DX-3 features both a 6.3 mm unbalanced and a 4.4 mm balanced headphone output.

Wireless Listening Also an Option

As mentioned, Bluetooth is also included, allowing for wireless playback with support for AAC and aptX HD codecs. However, the primary focus remains on high-quality wired listening. The DAC functionality is powered by an ESS Sabre ES9028PRO 8-channel DAC chip. It supports PCM up to 32-bit / 384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256.

Additionally, the DX-3 features RCA unbalanced and XLR balanced outputs, making it suitable for use as a preamplifier in an existing setup. It also includes an RCA line input for further versatility.

The Rotel DX-3 will be available at the end of this month for a price of €1,499. The choice of a black or silver edition is yours.
